Former two-division world champion Aung La N Sang is in no rush to get a world title shot, focusing instead at the moment on sharpening his skills and coming up with performances that fans can appreciate.
“The Burmese Python” shared that he is still aiming to reclaim the ONE middleweight world title currently held by Reinier de Ridder, but he is taking it one step at a time. He is keeping himself active so that when the opportunity to compete for the belt comes, he will be ready.
Aung La N Sang told SCMP MMA:
“I’m sure De Ridder’s gonna need some time off, so it’s okay. I wanna stay active. I wanna keep improving as a mixed martial artist; fill in some of my holes. And just keep being a better mixed martial artist and also just keep putting on exciting shows for the fans. That to me is very important. I wanna see exciting bouts…as a fan I wanna put on great shows for the fans as well.”

The American-Burmese fighter once simultaneously held the middleweight and light heavyweight world titles before losing them in successive fashion to de Ridder.
Aung La N Sang returns to the Circle at ONE Fight Night 6 on January 13 in Bangkok. He will face off with comebacking ‘Giba” Gilberto Galvao of Brazil in a catchweight mixed martial arts showdown.
It will be a short turnaround for him after competing just last November at ONE 163 where he defeated Yushin Okami. Galvao, meanwhile, will be returning to action after a lengthy absence.
ONE Fight Night 6 is live and free for North American fans with an active Prime Video subscription in U.S. primetime.
Aung La N Sang happy to be back in action on short notice to kick off 2023
Looking to keep himself active as he awaits a world title shot at middleweight, ‘The Burmese Python’ Aung La N Sang said he is happy to be back in action even if it is on short notice.
Aung La N Sang will see action at ONE Fight Night 6 on January 13 in Bangkok in a catchweight MMA showdown against comebacking fighter “Giba” Gilberto Galvao.
He just last fought in November, which does bother him at all.
In an Instagram post, Aung La N Sang thanked ONE Championship Chairman and CEO Chatri Sityodtong for the opportunity to see action early in the new year and keep himself busy. Part of his post read:
“When I walked out of the @onechampionship circle my last fight, @yodchatri told me that he wants me back in 6 weeks. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to fight in Bangkok 🇹🇭 and keeping your word.”
The Burmese Python used to hold the middleweight world title but lost it to Reinier de Ridder in 2020.
