There aren’t many things that Aung La N Sang hasn’t been able to accomplish during his run with ONE Championship. One of the biggest stars in the promotion, Aung La reigned as the second-ever double champion, holding both the middleweight and light heavyweight world titles.
As he approaches the final chapters of his storied career, ‘The Burmese Python’ is looking to tick another first off his list.
With one of the biggest announcements of the year, ONE Championship has committed to putting on events at the historic Lumpinee stadium in Thailand. As one of Asia’s biggest stars, Aung La N Sang is looking at this announcement as an opportunity to do something new in his career.
In an interview with ONE Championship, he said:

“I would love to be on one of those cards. It would be amazing. As a fighter, for us to go to Japan and compete in the sumo arena, that was historical and amazing. To do that in Lumpinee Stadium would be amazing as well... It’s one of those things that you can only dream of. Not many fighters can say they fought in Lumpinee Stadium. Not many fighters can say they fought in the sumo arena in Tokyo. It would be great for me.”
Aung La N Sang says he can learn from Anatoly Malykhin’s KO victory over Reinier de Ridder
Aung La N Sang has seen value in learning from Anatoly Malykhin’s performance against former two-division world champion Reinier de Ridder.
At ONE on Prime Video 5, Malykhin became the first man to defeat ‘The Dutch Knight’ and he did it in style with a flawless opening round that led to a knockout. Already holding the ONE interim heavyweight world title, Malykhin became the newest double champion in ONE with his shocking stoppage over de Ridder.
Aung La N Sang lost both of his world titles to the Dutchman and was therefore naturally impressed by how Malykhin was able to completely negate de Ridder’s ability. He sees the fight as something he can learn from going into 2023:
“It really depended on whether Reinier was going to be able to take him down and tire him out with his grappling. But they never got to the ground because of how well Anatoly kept his positioning. He put on a perfect performance."
He added:
“It was a great fight, something that the fans were entertained by, and something that I can learn from as well.”
After losing three out of four bouts, ‘The Burmese Python’ got back into the win column in a big way at ONE 163 in November. Sharing the circle with Japanese legend Yushin ‘Thunder’ Okami, Aung La scored a massive victory, knocking out Okami just 1:42 into the first round.
