Former two-division ONE world champion Aung La N Sang knows a thing or two about being on the wrong side of the judge's decision.
Scheduled to step back into the Circle at ONE 163 on November 19, ‘The Burmese Python’ will square off with another mixed martial arts legend, Yushin ‘Thunder’ Okami. Ahead of his highly-anticipated return, Aung La N Sang sat down with The MMA Super Fan.
During the conversation, they found themselves discussing the subject of bad decisions in MMA and the expression, “never leave it in the hands of the judges.” Aung La specifically recalled the decision handed down by the judges at ONE on Prime Video 2 following the critically-acclaimed trilogy bout between atomweight queen Angela Lee and strawweight world champion ‘The Panda’ Xiong Jing Nan:
“Angela was complaining about the decision right? And who was the other girl that she was telling ‘you shouldn’t have left it to the judges’ decision you know?’ That’s what she was telling about. Denice lost to the Korean girl, Ham [Seo Hee]. It’s like a double-edged sword. Angela Lee said you shouldn’t have left it to the judges’ decision and she did the same and she complained.”

Aung La N Sang refuses to let a “bad” decision get to him
While some felt that Angela Lee did enough in her fight with Xiong Jing Nan to capture the ONE women's strawweight world championship, the unanimous decision in favor of ‘The Panda’ was accepted by the general consensus. Lee, on the other hand, felt that she was on the wrong side of a bad decision by the judges that evening. In her post-fight interview, Lee said:
“It was a great fight. Xiong came out really strong in the first round but I feel like I was the one consistently pushing forward, landing heavy strikes. I just don’t understand the decision, I don’t understand how you can score points on the card with your defense and running backward but I gave it my all in this fight."
Without giving any specific examples, Aung La N Sang feels that he himself has lost many fights over what he would consider to be bad decisions, but he refuses to complain about it, understanding that from time to time, it happens to any fighter that steps inside the cage for a living.
“I’m not gonna complain about that. Decisions can be bad, but it’s across the board. I’ve lost a lot of fights on bad decisions. But it is what it is.”
