Aung La N Sang values being the absolute best in his division over any amount of money.
‘The Burmese Python’ is currently in the process of climbing back to the top of the mountain after being knocked off by Reinier de Ridder, losing both of his ONE world titles in back-to-back fights with ‘The Dutch Knight.’ Since then, Aung La has bounced back, scoring two-straight first-round knockouts against Yushin ‘Thunder’ Okami and Gilberto Galvao.
On May 5, Aung La N Sang will return to the circle with hopes of continuing his rise back to the top, but first, ‘The Burmese Python’ spoke with the South China Morning Post to discuss what is truly important to him:
“Money doesn’t mean much to me, you need money but then money isn’t everything... It’s like if I’m not trying to be the best in my division, what am I doing this for?”

Aung La will go for his third win in a row when ONE Championship makes their long-awaited debut in the United States for ONE Fight Night 10 on Prime Video. Intent on stopping ‘The Burmese Python’ in his track will be the ‘King Kong Warrior’ Fan Rong. The Chinese standout is an impressive 19-3 in his MMA career but will be looking to bounce back after a third-round submission loss to Vitaly Bigdash in his last outing.
Aung La N Sang is happy to be his division’s gatekeeper
Aung La N Sang has ruled over ONE Championship’s middleweight division and while he may not be the reigning world champion, he’s more than happy to play the role of gatekeeper before storming the castle himself:
“Yeah, I’ve been keeping that gate... I’m the gatekeeper, if I destroy everybody coming to the gate I might as well go to the castle right? And get my throne back.”
Sitting on the throne inside that castle is the man that defeated ‘The Burmese Python’ in back-to-back bouts, Reinier de Ridder. ‘The Dutch Knight’ recently experienced his first setback inside the circle, losing his ONE light heavyweight title to Anatoly Malykhin in December.
Still a holder of the ONE middleweight crown, de Ridder could find himself in a trilogy bout with Aung La should ‘The Burmese Python’ put on another spectacular performance next Friday night against Fan Rong.
