At ONE Fight Night 7 on Prime Video, Ayaka Miura will try her hand at submission grappling when she faces Danielle Kelly.
With seven MMA bouts under her belt inside the circle, Miura is taking herself out of her comfort zone after suffering back-to-back defeats. Unfortunately for her, Danielle Kelly has made a name for herself by taking on all comers, whether they have an MMA or grappling background.
Speaking exclusively to Sportskeeda MMA, Ayaka Miura discussed her decision to take this grappling contest over trying to rebound in MMA:
“It’s simple - ONE Championship offered this match so I decided to accept. I wanted to stay active.”

Having not fought since April 2022, staying active will be massively beneficial for Miura if she is going to rebuild the momentum that saw her win three in a row inside the circle.
It’s also worth pointing out that whilst Miura is predominantly a mixed martial artist, her background is in judo and she has used this skillset to be successful in ONE Championship.
All four of her wins under the ONE banner have come by way of Americana submission. So, whilst she is stepping into Danielle Kelly’s world on February 24, she cannot be underestimated either.

Danielle Kelly ready to take on Ayaka Miura’s unique challenge
Submission grappler Danielle Kelly is always looking to take on unique challenges when she steps inside the circle. That’s no different with her next opponent, Ayaka Miura.
At ONE Fight Night 7 on Prime Video on February 24, Kelly will look to remain unbeaten inside the circle against the Japanese mixed martial artist.
Looking to start her 2023 with a win and progress forwards towards a potential world championship, Kelly talked about her expectations for her upcoming contest in an interview with The MMA Superfan:
“It is catchweight, and I’ve been kind of used to competing against bigger girls, which I stopped for a while. I’ve seen her fight, she’s really good. And I think taking this match also brings a lot of eyes to it.”
With Ayaka Miura’s judo and MMA background, the fighter nicknamed ‘Zombie’ will present a unique puzzle for Kelly to try and solve in her third appearance inside the circle.
Ahead of their contest, Danielle Kelly spoke about her opponent’s preparations:
“Obviously, she’s a very good judo black belt, all her finishes are pretty much the same thing,” Kelly said. “Going into this match, I think she’s training with [Masakazu] Imanari and even Mei Yamaguchi was training with her. But I did do a lot of fixups from that first match, so I’m curious to see what Ayaka has for me.”
