At ONE Fight Night 7 on Prime Video, Ayaka Miura is taking herself out of her comfort zone to some extent.

The former ONE women’s strawweight world title contender will face Danielle Kelly in a submission grappling contest on February 24 at the iconic Lumpinee Boxing Stadium. Miura is no stranger to grappling, but this will be the first time she has competed under this ruleset under the ONE Championship banner, and she’s jumping in at the deep end by facing one of the top competitors in the world.

In her pre-event interview, Miura spoke about her reasons for taking this match-up instead of returning to the women’s strawweight MMA division:

“The meaning of this grappling match for me is because of this fight camp, I am able to focus on my ground game. This is a huge improvement for me in MMA as well. So, for now, I really want to enjoy this grappling match. I just want to take it as something positive.”

Using this opportunity as an experience to learn and improve could significantly help Miura once she returns to mixed-martial arts. Her grappling skills are already some of the best in the division, with all four of her wins inside the circle coming by way of submission.

A win over Danielle Kelly, who is riding some huge momentum, could help ‘Zombie’ get her groove back.

Ayaka Miura delighted at chance to compete at Lumpinee Boxing Stadium in Bangkok

On top of the opportunity to test her grappling skills in ONE Championship’s submission grappling ruleset, Ayaka Miura is excited to compete on this particular stage.

ONE Fight Night 7 on Prime Video will take place inside the iconic Lumpinee Boxing Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand, on February 24 and will be available live and for free to all Prime Video subscribers in North America.

The event was previously scheduled for a different date and venue, but after being moved to Lumpinee, the excitement undoubtedly increased. ONE’s series of events from the legendary venue, ONE Friday Fights, have all produced great nights of action, and February 24 is shaping up to be no different.

Speaking exclusively to Sportskeeda MMA, Ayaka Miura spoke about the venue change and how it has not diminished her own anticipation for February 24:

“I wasn’t expected to fight in Lumpinee Stadium. I am actually excited to fight there.”

On top of the fact that Ayaka Miura is yet to compete under this specific ruleset, the physical boundaries of this contest will also be new to her. Due to ONE Fight Night 7 taking place at Lumpinee, the cage will be replaced by a ring, a change that significantly affects grappling in particular.

ONE Fight Night 7 on Prime Video, headlined by the rematch between Fabricio Andrade and John Lineker for the vacant bantamweight world championship, will air live and free for North American viewers via an active Prime Video subscription.
