Not every mixed martial artist can have the incredible career longevity of Demetrious Johnson. The ONE flyweight world champion has been at the absolute top of the sport for so long that he's been able to gain some invaluable experience.

Given the intense physical nature of the sport, the career of an MMA fighter is not something that can be extended once it is coming to an end. With that in mind, 'Mighty Mouse' urges others to strike whilst the iron is hot so that they have foundations already in place for the future.

Using your time in the spotlight to help prepare for life post-career is an important stage in the life of any professional athlete. It's something that Johnson has done himself in recent years and he spoke about it a lot during his recent podcast interview with Angela Lee.

Demetrious Johnson has successfully transitioned into the next stage of his career

Demetrious Johnson has taken a step back from competing in MMA as of late but that doesn't mean that he is living the retired life. 'Mighty Mouse' was always ahead of the curve to some extent with the time he spent building a fan base via his love for video games and streaming.

Now he is doing the same thing but by utilizing his knowledge and experience of combat sports on YouTube.

Johnson isn't just an excellent analyst for mixed martial arts, he's a strong example to follow for fighters who are starting to think about what awaits them on the other side of their active years.
