"Hey, you've gotta stop talking about my weight because you look like you've put on a few pounds. You look heavy."

In response, Makhachev said that he weighed 180 pounds at the time, 25 pounds above the lightweight limit of 155 pounds. Taking a friendly jab at his teammate, Cormier said:

"180? And you fight at 155? Weight bully! This is what you are."

Muhammad, the reigning welterweight champion also has a close friendship with Makhachev that goes beyond their professional ambitions. The Dagestani fighter initially intended to move up to welterweight to pursue a second title. However, he abandoned those plans after Muhammad claimed the 170-pound championship by defeating Leon Edwards at UFC 304.

Coach says Islam Makhachev weighs less than featherweight champion Ilia Topuria during fight camp

Daniel Cormier jokingly suggested that Islam Makhachev might be bullying fellow lightweights with his size. However, featherweight champion Ilia Topuria appears to be ahead of that game. The Spaniard recently indicated that he is considering a move to lightweight due to difficulties with weight-cutting. He also has a strong desire to beat Makhachev and become the lightweight champion.

Makhachev's coach and head of American Kickboxing Academy, Javier Mendes, addressed the topic during his recent appearance on Submission Radio. Mendez was surprised to learn that Topuria weighed over 185 pounds before cutting down to 145 pounds weight class. He said:

"I was told that Topuria's coach said that he was 187 pounds. Islam, I don't think has ever been that heavy. So Islam, when he starts the training camp two months out, Islam's about 179, you know, 178... So he's never been above 180. So Topuria being 187 means that... He's the best technical boxer anyways, he can do a lot of damage if he goes up in weight."
