Belal Muhammad last entered the octagon in July when he defeated Leon Edwards via unanimous decision at UFC 304 to capture the welterweight title. While he appeared set to attempt to defend the belt for the first time against Shavkat Rakhmonov at UFC 310, he was forced to withdraw from the bout due to a bone infection in his foot.
Louis Taylor, who coaches 'Remember the Name', recently revealed that the welterweight champion is hoping to become one of the greatest fighters in divisional history.
Speaking to Jacob Castro of Parry Punch, the 2018 PFL middleweight tournament champion stated:
"Belal wants to prove to the world that he’s one of the greatest, if not the greatest, welterweight of all time. That is his new goal. His first goal was to be the UFC welterweight champion. Checkmate, done. His next goal is to climb that ladder and prove to all the haters he is a GOAT at that weight class. He's all in at making that path happen."

Taylor expanded on Muhammad's goals, adding:
"He wants to pass up [Kamaru] Usman, he wants to pass up Matt Hughes, and potentially even get up there next to [Georges St-Pierre] and to tell the world this information, it’s just more hate finna come, but that’s his goals. You need a goal when you're a fighter. You need motivation. You don't want to be a journeyman like, 'oh, I just want the next fight'. You want something that's going to make you great. You want a goal. And that's the next goal for our camp."

Belal Muhammad reveals drastic measures he considered to compete at UFC 310
Belal Muhammad was forced to withdraw from the first title defense of his career as he suffered a bone infection in his foot. 'Remember the Name' recently revealed that he considered amputating his toe in order to compete at UFC 310.
Speaking to Caroline Pearce of TNT Sports, the welterweight champion was asked about the claim, responding:
"Yeah, like I said, being my first main event in Vegas, I was so hyped for it. I had so many family [members] that bought tickets already and I was like, 'do I need this toe?' and the doctors were like, 'are you stupid?' The infection started climbing up the foot and I was like, 'alright, well, whatever, let's just get it over with'. God's plan. Everything happens for a reason. I just got to trust it."
