Liz Carmouche recently released a statement after failing to make weight for the first time in her MMA career. The reigning Bellator women's flyweight champion weighed in at 127-pounds for the official PFL Nashville weigh-ins, which was one-pound over the allowance for non-title fights.

'Girl-Rilla' has competed in 29 professional bouts at both bantamweight and flyweight and had never missed weight, so it was uncharacteristic when she missed weight yesterday. The Bellator women's flyweight champion will take on former UFC contender Taila Santos in the semi-finals of the PFL playoffs, with the winner advancing to the finals for a chance at the $1 million grand prize and 2024 world championship.

After failing to make weight for the first time in her MMA career, the reigning Bellator women's flyweight champion took to her Instagram account to provide a statement. Carmouche apologised and mentioned that she felt fine throughout the weight cut, however, it took a turn towards the end and failed to reach the non-title flyweight limit. She said:

"The cut was going as usual. I'm due to start my period on Saturday which sent my weight up a little on Tuesday. I still thought I was within a good range but I was wrong. For some reason my body stopped sweating a pound over. My coaches and I tried to keep cutting but there was nothing left to drop. All I can do now is put on the fight you all have been looking forward to...I know you guys won't be disappointed in our performances."

Liz Carmouche to be fined and penalized for weight miss at PFL Nashville

Liz Carmouche will be fined and penalised after missing weight for her PFL Nashville bout against Taila Santos.

It was confirmed that the reigning Bellator women's flyweight champion will be fined 20% of her fighter purse. Due to the bout serving as the semi-final of a tournament and the winner moving on to the finals, Carmouche will also be deducted one point on all scorecards should her bout against Santos go the distance.

With that in mind, a finish becomes more important for Carmouche as it would ensure that the weight miss doesn't result in her losing her bout.
