MMA living legend Brandon Vera has finally dipped his toes into the movie-making business.

Ahead of his highly anticipated return to the Circle on December 3 at ONE 164, Vera was thrilled to talk about his first leading role in a zombie-apocalypse movie called “Day Zero." The movie is currently streaming on Amazon Prime Video Philippines.

Man, we shot that during COVID. And it was about a virus that turns people into zombies. So the timing of it was, you know kinda perfect. It was a really cool shoot, I worked with an amazing young director.
“I worked with a crazy crazy stuntman crew. They were so good that they made me wanna [step] up my game even more. We started drilling on set so many more times than necessary. These guys could do amazing things. My favorite part about this film, it’s a zombie film, yes everybody knows about zombie films but this one’s different.”

Brandon Vera enjoyed leading an all action-packed movie with no CGI

Brandon Vera was also proud that he got to partake in all the action without CGI.

“No CGI, all hardcore action, us doing takes and takes and takes, and getting it right and perfecting so it looks good on camera.

The film revolves around Brandon Vera’s character, Emon, an ex-soldier who breaks out of jail during the outbreak to save his family from bloodthirsty zombies. It’s a promising post-apocalyptic Filipino film with lots of action, horror, and gore.

Vera continued to add:

"It was great. I enjoyed it. And I shot it in very different parts. We shot it at the very beginning of the pandemic, we bled a little over until we locked down, and then we came back a year later and we shot again, I can’t remember weeks. And then, we moved on. We started training and doing family time and doing all the other things that I forgot about scenes we shot in the movie. I never got to see it until the whole movie was put together.”
