Breaking: Exciting featherweight matchup announced for upcoming UFC event in June

An intriguing UFC featherweight matchup in the form of David Onama vs. Khusein Askhabov will take place in the month of June.

Although no location or main event has been decided, the two 145-pounders will compete on June 3rd.

David Onama is a 28-year-old mixed martial artist who has competed in 12 professional fights in his career. 'The Silent Assassin' has emerged victorious in 10 of those 12 encounters. What makes Onama an exciting fighter is the fact that the 28-year-old has scored finishes in all 10 of his victories - six knockouts and four submissions.

Khusein Askhabov hails from Chechnya, Russia and is 28 years old. 'Lion' has competed in 24 professional MMA bouts in his career and has been on the winning side in 23 of them. When it comes to finishes, Askhaboy also boasts of an impressive resume. The Russian has finished 16 of his 24 fights - six by knockout and 10 by submission.

So, considering both fighters' resumes as well as their capability to finish fights, the featherweight scrap between Onama and Askhabov is expected to bring fireworks.


How did David Onama and Khusein Askhabov fare in their last UFC fight?

David Onama's last fight took place at UFC on ESPN 41 in August 2022. 'The Silent Assassin' took on Nate Landwehr in a welterweight scrap in the co-main event that night. The fight was a back-and-forth brawl that electrified the entire Pechanga Arena in San Diego, California.

The contest went the full 15-minute distance and ended in a majority decision victory for Landwehr. The three judges scored the bout 28-28, 29-27 and 29-27 in favor of 'The Train'.

The contest was awarded the 'Fight of the Night' honors and both athletes took home an additional cheque of $50,000.

Boxing royalty Teddy Atlas was also thoroughly entertained by the fight. Atlas took to Twitter to shower praise on the two fighters and compared their encounter to iconic boxing clashes like Muhammad Ali vs. Joe Frazier and Arturo Gatti vs. Micky Ward.

The last fight did not go well for the Russian fighter. In his last outing in February 2023, Askhabov made his UFC debut and took on Jamall Emmers. 'Lion' came up short that night and suffered the first loss of his MMA career via unanimous decision.
