UFC 287 is shaping up to be another fantastic event and alongside a number of recent announcements for the card, the promotion has decided to add an exciting middleweight brawl between Gerald Meerschaert and Joe Pyfer.

At just 26 years of age, the Dana White's Contender Series alum could go on to become a real fan favorite due to his ability to shut the lights off for opponents in striking exchanges. The hype surrounding the prospect is high and he will get the chance to prove himself in the sport in an extremely tough bout next time out.

Earlier today, the middleweight matchup between veteran Gerald Meerschaert and rising talent Joe Pyfer was announced on a UFC 287 card which looks increasingly better with each addition.

'Bodybagz' is looking to build on his promotional debut with another strong performance on April 8. His first octagon appearance took place just four months ago and saw the knockout artist score a first-round finish against Alen Amedovski.

Meerschaert will pose a completely different threat to the middleweight newcomer, as the MMA veteran of over half a decade has managed to collect an unbelievable 27 wins by submission throughout his career.

Not only has 'GM3' won four of his last five fights—with each of those wins coming by way of submission—but his level of competition has been far ahead of the much younger Pyfer, which would likely give him an advantage under the lights.

The UFC event on April 8, set to take place in Brooklyn, New York, already has a number of confirmed bouts that should get fight fans excited about the upcoming pay-per-view.

Following his recent injury, Kelvin Gastelum returns to action and welcomes Chris Curtis into the cage in a middleweight war between two fighters who love to stand in the center and trade bombs.

Rob Font will be in action for the first time since his one-sided beatdown loss to Marlon Vera last year. Despite being much more experienced with high-level opponents, the volume striker will meet the promising Adrian Yanez in a bantamweight fight that promises to produce fireworks.

There is currently no title fight headlining the card, though that will likely change in the near future with rumors suggesting that Aljamain Sterling's bantamweight throne could be on the line.
