Breaking: Medical issue leads to fight cancelation from this weekend's UFC San Antonio card

Medical issues caused two fights to be removed from this weekend's UFC on ESPN card, set to take place at the AT&T Center in San Antonio, Texas.

According to an official statement from the UFC, Tamires Vidal has been removed from her bout with Hailey Cowan, and the bout was subsequently removed from the card. Vidal was removed citing medical issues, but at the moment, details are yet to be disclosed.

In a similar case, Manuel Torres had a medical issue that caused his lightweight bout against Trey Ogden to be canceled. UFC officials cited medical issues as being the reason Torres was not allowed to compete, but did not provide any specifics into the situation.

While we can only speculate with regards to what type of medical issues the fighters suffered, the timing may indicate complications with their respective weight cuts. Given the fact that this was announced as the weigh-ins took place, a botched weight cut appears all the more likely.

Cory Sandhagen vs Marlon Vera to headline UFC San Antonio

While two promising bouts have been removed from the card altogether, fans should be glad that the main event featuring Cory 'Sandman' Sandhagen and Marlon 'Chito' Vera is set to take place.

The bantamweight title-eliminator features the two fan-friendly strikers going head-to-head in a bid to stake their claim as next in line for the 135 lb belt.

The rest of the card also sees some stand-out fighters. Holly 'The Preacher's Daughter' Holm makes a comeback against Yana Santos (formerly Yana Kunitskaya). Alex Perez is set to take on Manel Kape in a banger of a fight at flyweight. Chidi Njokuani will face Albert Duraev in an explosive bout to kick off the main card.
