The flyweight bout between Tracy Cortez and Amanda Ribas, scheduled for UFC on ESPN 42 in Orlando has been called off after Cortez suffered an undisclosed medical issue and had to withdraw from the fight.
Both fighters successfully made weight on Friday morning, however, shortly after the official weigh-ins, the UFC announced that Cortez had been forced out of the preliminary flyweight bout due to a medical issue. It is not clear if the bout will be postponed to a future event or if Ribas will face someone else instead.
Cortez is coming off a win over Melissa Gatto, beating her opponent via unanimous decision at UFC 274. She has remained undefeated in the promotion since her debut in 2019.

Ribas, on the other hand, is coming off of a loss, losing to Katlyn Chookagian via split decision earlier this year. The Brazilian fighter has lost two out of seven fights in her UFC career while competing in the flyweight and strawweight divisions.
According to @WMMARankings on Twitter, Amanda Ribas and her team are looking to get the bout against Tracy Cortez re-scheduled for UFC 283 in Brazil in January.
With no official direction from the UFC as yet, it remains to be seen if the two flyweights will face each other in Brazil.
When Tracy Cortez thought Amanda Ribas staying at flyweight was a "bold move"
Tracy Cortez once stated that she was surprised by Amanda Ribas's decision to move up to flyweight after competing at strawweight for the majority of her career.
In an interview with MMA Junkie back in October this year, Cortez was asked about her opinion on Ribas sticking around in the 125-pound weight class. The 28-year-old said:
“That’s a bold move moving up to 125, I personally don’t understand it, but maybe she just feels better, she feels healthier. I don’t know what the reason behind it is, but I hope she brings her best.”
Cortez further spoke on the Brazilian's performance against Katlyn Chookagian. Ribas lost to the American via split decision earlier this year in May. Cortez stated:
"I think she did good. I think she did really great. I think Chookagian also did a good job staying composed and falling into her fight, where she's, you know, spazzy. But, yeah. She did good."
