UFC veteran Diego Sanchez is reportedly set to fight former boxing world champion Austin Trout in a bare knuckle boxing match. As per Jorge Hernandez of Southwest Fight News, Sanchez and Trout will clash at a Bare Knuckle FC card in February in Albuquerque, New Mexico. While Trout is from Las Cruces, Sanchez is a Burqueño native, making the all-New-Mexico clash the most likely headliner. Hernandez wrote on Twitter:
"SOURCE: Former boxing world champ Austin Trout to face former UFC vet Diego Sanchez on expected Bare Knuckle FC Feb. card in Albuquerque, NM. The all-New Mexico bout pinning the longtime Las Cruces resident, Trout & native Burqueño, Sanchez will surely be main event on Feb. card"
Diego Sanchez signed with Khabib Nurmagomedov's Eagle FC after parting ways with the UFC last year. 'Nightmare' has fought only once under the banner, dropping a unanimous decision against fellow veteran Kevin Lee.
Meanwhile, Austin Trout is a former WBA light middleweight champion, holding the strap from 2011 to 2013. He also challenged twice for the IBF light middleweight title in 2016 an 2017 and for the WBC title in 2018. Trout is currently scheduled to face Jose Sanchez Charles on December 9 in Hidalgo, Texas.
