Brendan Schaub recently weighed in on Canelo Alvarez threatening soccer sensation Lionel Messi for allegedly disrespecting the Mexican national flag.

Lionel Messi scored in Argentina's 2-0 victory over Mexico in a must-win match at the ongoing FIFA World Cup in Qatar. Messi was filmed celebrating in the locker room after the game, seemingly kicking a Mexican jersey he had just received after the teams had switched shirts at the final whistle.

The video enraged boxing icon Canelo Alvarez, who threatened Messi on Twitter.

Retired UFC heavyweight contender Brendan Schaub opined on the hot controversy on his YouTube channel, Thiccc Boy:

"Messi got in a little bit of trouble because he took a Mexican football jersey and cleaned the locker room floor with it. Canelo saw that, who's Mr. Mexico and was like, 'Hey Messi! You better watch your back. When I see you, it's on.' Canelo, if there's one guy with more money than you, it's Messi, and his security is thick."

Brendan Schaub finds it funny that Mexico loves football but is "not very good at it"

Brendan Schaub had a thing or two to say about the ongoing FIFA World Cup, the most prestigious association football tournament in the world.

Sports fans are globally united by the spectacle of the World Cup as football will remain on the center stage until 18 December 2022.

Speaking in the aforementioned video, Brendan Schaub claims to be dumbfounded by Mexico's love for the sport. He claimed that they're not so good at it in his opinion:

"Isn't it funny how Mexico loves soccer, but they're not very good. Little strange...they gather around the TV for that and they're just not very good."

Comparing the fervor for the sport with his home country, Schaub claimed to be perplexed by the global love for the sport:

"In the US, we're like hopefully they do alright. We tied England, and people are celebrating like the team won the Super Bowl. We tied England 0-0. I love when people talk s**t about American football...I'm like, 'Hey! First of all, I watched for two hours, and nobody scored a single point, and you want to complain about American football?"

Mexico's first match in the group stage of the World Cup ended in a goalless draw. 'El Tri' went on to lose their next match against Argentina. They will next face Saudi Arabia on Thursday.
