Islam Makhachev has once again saved the main event after his original opponent, Arman Tsarukyan, was forced to withdraw due to a back injury. UFC President Dana White announced that Renato Moicano has officially replaced Tsarukyan.

UFC 311 is set to take place this Saturday at the Intuit Dome in Inglewood, California. Makhachev will defend his lightweight belt for the fourth time, with the opportunity to etch his name in the history books, as no other 155-pound fighter has defended the title more than three times.

Makhachev is currently ranked as the No. 1 pound-for-pound fighter. However, the UFC CEO has persistently dismissed the Dagestani star as his top pound-for-pound choice. Instead, White has named reigning heavyweight champion Jon Jones as the No. 1 fighter, asserting repeatedly that as long as Jones is part of the promotion, he will remain at the top of the pound-for-pound rankings for him.

After accepting the fight with Moicano, Makhachev took to Instagram and took a lighthearted jab at the UFC head honcho, reminding him that he is the pound-for-pound best fighter. Makhachev wrote:

“Now you understand what is the meaning of p4p.”

MMA Orbit shared the post on X, which sparked reactions from several MMA fans.

One fan speculated whether, if Jones were in Makhachev's situation, ‘Bones’ would have pulled out of the bout, writing:

“Cook, because Jon would've pulled out if they offered a 1-day notice replacement.”

Another user praised the Dagestani region for producing top MMA fighters, commenting:

“Hate it or love it Dagestan has the best fighters in the entire world. A population of only 3 million people yet they have so many champions and contenders. Just keeping it real.”

A fan commented:

“Probably didn't even demand FU money to take the fight and save the card.”

Another user added:

“Bro cheating on Jon.”
