Fans had hilarious reactions to a photo that is allegedly of Dricus du Plessis during his teenage years. Du Plessis is the first African-based UFC champion and belongs to the Afrikaner community, a South African social group with Dutch origin.
Recently, UFC Fight Pass commentator Ben Davis posted an old photo, alleged to be du Plessis' on X. The humorous caption to the post read:
"DDP as a teen looks like he was in a South African boy band."

Du Plessis, known for his sportsmanship, has addressed psots such as these with a playful sense of humor in the past. In June 2023, a fan shared a picture of a group of African boys alongside one white boy posing by a soccer goalpost, joking that it was du Plessis. 'Stillknocks' responded with a witty remark, stating that while he wished he could be a part of that scene, he wasn't good enough at soccer to be posing with the team.

Zimbabwe's Themba Gorimbo suffered a first-round submission defeat against Vicente Luque at UFC 310 in December 2024. During a recent appearance on The Pivot Podcast, Gorimbo shared that some of his cousins back in his hometown celebrated his defeat. His quote was re-posted by @homeoffight on Instagram.

While Gorimbo's story generated sympathy among many fight fans, du Plessis commented with a sharp critique. He wrote:
"Yeah because anybody that knows you would."
On the professional front, du Plessis secured his first middleweight title defense against former two-time champion Israel Adesanya at UFC 305 in August 2024.
He is now scheduled to face Sean Strickland in the UFC 312 main event, set to take place in Sydney, Australia, on Feb. 8. The fight is the rematch of their UFC 297 meeting that du Plessis won by split decision to become the middleweight champion.
