Jorge Masvidal retired from mixed martial arts in April 2023 following his unanimous decision loss to Gilbert Burns at UFC 287. That marked the fourth consecutive loss for 'Gamebred', a streak that began with two consecutive welterweight title bout losses to Kamaru Usman. He has been hinting at a return to the sport and recently signed with Ali Abdelaziz's management group, Dominance MMA.

Jorge Masvidal calls out Leon Edwards for long-awaited clash
While Jorge Masvidal and Leon Edwards appeared destined to clash, a bout between the two never came to fruition. 'Gamebred' recently expressed an interest in facing 'Rocky' in his return to mixed martial arts, however, he doesn't believe the latter will accept the clash.
Speaking to Damon Martin of MMA Fighting, the two-time welterweight title challenger claimed:
"I know he wouldn't fight me. He don't want that s**t. He already got offered it and he turned it down. That guy don't want this s**t... I'll tell you right now, Leon, I will whoop your f**king a**, bro. Let's f**king go. I don't know, Dec. 7, maybe, in Vegas. Maybe next year at the Super Bowl. I don't know, but I'll beat the f**k out of your skinny a**."

Masvidal and Edwards were famously involved in a backstage incident following UFC Fight Night 147 in March 2019. 'Gamebred' landed multiple punches on 'Rocky', claiming he delivered a 'three-piece and a soda'. The two finally appeared set to settle their differences at UFC 269 in December 2021, however, Masvidal was forced to withdraw due to injury.
