“Building the legacy” - Jonathan Haggerty eager to write his name in the history books once it’s all said and done

Jonathan Haggerty plans to be "a legend of the sport" when he ends his Muay Thai career.

Over the past five years, Haggerty has made history in ONE Championship. The UK superstar is a former flyweight Muay Thai champion, former bantamweight Muay Thai champion, and current bantamweight kickboxing champion.

At 27 years old, Haggerty has plenty of goals left to accomplish before retiring, which he explained during an interview on the 'Winners Talking Podcast:

"Obviously, being known as the best fighter in the world. A legend of the sport. Being able to buy a house with the sport, that’s one of the main things. But to be known, not many people know this, but to be known on the outside. Building the legacy. 100 percent, building the legacy."

Haggerty followed up by saying:

"With social media in it too now, the young ones can build their brand or get themselves to the bigger platform through social media."

Earlier this year, Jonathan Haggerty's run as a two-sport bantamweight world champion ended. Haggerty dared to be great against Superlek, but the latter dethroned him of Muay Thai gold with a 49-second knockout at ONE 168.

Jonathan Haggerty scheduled for kickboxing return

Following his disappointing loss against Superlek, Jonathan Haggerty will return to the bantamweight kickboxing division to defend his world title for the first time.

Haggerty won the vacant world title in November 2023 with a second-round knockout against bantamweight MMA world champion Fabricio Andrade

On February 20, 2025, Haggerty will headline ONE 171: Qatar to defend his throne. 'The General' is scheduled to face Wei Rui, who won his promotional debut against former world champion Hiroki Akimoto by split decision in May.

In the co-main event, Joshua Pacio looks to defend his strawweight MMA world title against interim champion Jarred Brooks. Pacio regained the throne in a rematch against Brooks due to the latter being disqualified for an illegal slam.
