Donald Cerrone came under fire from fans after expressing his surprise upon visiting Istanbul, Turkey, for a hair transplant. The UFC veteran, who's preparing for a return to competition, shared that he initially thought the city would be similar to India, seemingly expecting a chaotic scene with street-side medical procedures.
Cerrone’s assumption led to widespread criticism, as fans found his comments insensitive and uninformed. Many pointed out that Istanbul, as the largest city in Turkey, is a modern, cosmopolitan hub with world-class facilities, far removed from the image Cerrone had in mind. The hair transplant experience, as Cerrone detailed later, turned out to be much smoother than expected, with top-tier hospitals, five-star hotels, and professional medical staff.
Speaking in an episode of the Rodeo Time Podcast, Cerrone said:
"I got it locked down right now [in] Turkey Istanbul. I could tell anyone now Hair Time is the company I went with. It's world-class... Like the hospital's world-class, the facilities world-class, [and] the hotel five star [and] everything about it."

Cerrone added:
"I'm thinking [that] I'm going to Istanbul, Turkey like watching things on social media. Little Indian guys stirring making Hamburger sandwiches. That's the place I think I'm going. In my mind I'm thinking Istanbul is going to be a lot like India and it's going to be just some dude pulling one dude's tooth on the side of the road [and] me getting hair plugs next to him."
Cerrone’s comments about his initial misconceptions shocked fans on X, with many questioning his awareness before traveling abroad for medical treatment. They wrote:
"Can’t be this f*cking dumb. Not hard to google places."
"Is geography an optional elective in US?"
"Americans' geography education is horrendous. Turkey is in Europe and nowhere near India. I don’t know how this dumb-ass thought Istanbul was going to be like India. Turkey is a major holiday destination in Europe with several famous beach towns."
"Average person in America until they finally go outside. We let our cities and facilities decay and fall behind."

Michael Bisping offers matchup idea for Donald Cerrone's return to competition
Former UFC middleweight champion Michael Bisping has suggested a fitting opponent for Donald Cerrone's return fight. According to him, a rematch with Tony Ferguson makes sense for Cerrone.
Cerrone aims for two more fights to hit the 50-fight milestone, and Bisping believes a fight with Ferguson, who last defeated Cerrone in 2018, would make sense. Both fighters have struggled in recent years, with Ferguson enduring a rough losing streak. Speaking on the Believe You Me podcast, Bisping said:
“The one matchup that I think most people would sign off on, if he’s even still not retired, it would be a rematch with Tony Ferguson."
