The Canelo Alvarez vs. David Benavidez continues to elude the challenger, who is chasing the Mexican great. Recently, Alvarez responded to Benavidez's allegations that he is avoiding a matchup with him, which has been the prevailing narrative surrounding the potential bout for some time now.
In a recent sitdown with iFL TV, Alvarez addressed the allegations, which have been made for the better part of a year given Benavidez's status as the mandatory WBC title challenger. However, Alvarez, for whatever reason, has never expressed any interest in the bout and continues to dismiss it.
"They [David Benavidez's team] can say whatever they want, but if they don't talk with my name, nobody's going to look at them. I get it, I get it. They need to speak my name to get attention, so I get it."

Unfortunately for Alvarez, he will continue to be linked to Benavidez so long as he holds the majority of the belts at super middleweight. Moreover, Benavidez is currently undefeated with a 29-0 record, 24 of which have been stoppages. He is also the current WBC interim light heavyweight champion.
However, the situation does not seem to favor Benavidez. Despite all of his success in the ring, he just can't seem to draw Alvarez's interest, with the Mexican legend willing to fight someone like Edgar Berlanga instead, who he is scheduled to face tomorrow.
Berlanga, despite being an unbeaten knockout artist, is regarded as a lower-level opponent without much championship experience. He is expected to be an easier challenge for Alvarez.
David Benavidez isn't the only fighter Canelo Alvarez has dismissed
Canelo Alvarez's propensity for picking and choosing his opponents has led to him dismissing other fighters besides David Benavidez. One such case is the great Terence Crawford, who has repeatedly challenged the Mexican star to a boxing match to no avail, with Alvarez showing little interest in him.
"Terence Crawford is a great fighter, he's a good fighter, but you know like I say, there are weight classes for a reason."

With his career winding down, the 61-2-2 Alvarez may not be as interested in challenging fights as he once was, especially after pushing himself too hard by taking on a light heavyweight in Dmitry Bivol, which landed him his second-ever loss.
