Canelo Alvarez recently committed to stand by his son's budding boxing aspirations following a playful sparring session during training camp.

Alvarez is gearing up to defend his super middleweight titles (WBA, WBC, WBO, and IBF) in a 12-round main event bout against his undefeated Mexican compatriot, Jaime Munguia.

Boxing runs deep in Canelo's veins, as it's a family tradition that spans generations. Raised alongside his older brothers Ramon, Ricardo, and Rigoberto Alvarez, all of whom are fighters themselves, Canelo was inspired to lace up his gloves at the tender age of 13.

The 33-year-old Mexican's family life is prominently featured on his social media, with his five-year-old son, Saul Adiel often stealing the spotlight as he playfully shadows his father in the gym, mimicking his every move with youthful enthusiasm.

Alvarez has opened up in numerous interviews about his son's strong desire to follow in his footsteps and become a professional boxer. However, despite being a multi-division champion himself, Alvarez has expressed his preference for his children to pursue careers in sports other than boxing.

In a recent YouTube video released by Premier Boxing Champions, viewers caught a glimpse of Alvarez enjoying some quality bonding time with his son during his training camp, engaging in playful sparring sessions.

In the video, Alvarez mentioned that if his son decides to pursue a career in the squared circle, he is fully prepared to support him in his endeavors:

"He says he wants to be a boxer. So, at the end of the day it's not what I want. He learns quickly but his best traits is that he loves it. Since he's talented, I think he can get as far as he wants. We'll see what the future holds. Obviously, if he stays the course and becomes a boxer, I'll support him."

When Canelo Alvarez offered son a candid reality check on pursuing boxing dreams

During an interview with SunSport last September, Canelo Alvarez gently reminded his son about the sacrifices and challenges boxing entails. He said:

"He [Saul Adiel] loves boxing. He told me, ‘Hey, when am I going to fight in Vegas?’ I said, 'OK, take it easy. When you grow up and you're 18 years old, maybe you can fight in Vegas. First you’re going to take the first punch and then let me know if you want to be a boxer or not.'"

Alvarej added:

"He needs to love boxing, he needs to have that discipline. He needs to be able to handle that sacrifice that comes with boxing. Plus that talent, because if you don’t have talent, find another sport."
