The Canelo Alvarez vs. Edgar Berlanga showdown is one that pits a veteran champion against a young contender looking to make a name for himself. The 34-year-old Alvarez boasts a professional boxing record of 61 victories, two defeats, and two draws. Meanwhile, the 27-year-old Berlanga has amassed a record of 22-0.
The Brooklyn-born Berlanga hails from a family of Puerto Rican immigrants and is a proud representative of the rich culture of Puerto Rican boxing. Many believe that 'The Chosen One' has yet to prove his mettle against the level of opposition that Alvarez has. Meanwhile, Mexico's Alvarez is viewed as a bonafide legend of the sport and one of the biggest box office draws in all of sports.
Alvarez is the reigning WBA (Super), WBC, WBO, and Ring Magazine super middleweight champion. He's booked to put his titles on the line against Berlanga in the headlining match of a boxing event that'll transpire at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, U.S.A., on Sept. 14, 2024.
