Canelo Alvarez's most famous defeat, and a pivotal point in his boxing career, came against Floyd Mayweather in 2013. Alvarez was only 23 years old at the time, but with six WBC title defenses and a record of 42-0-1 ahead of the bout, many felt he could give 'Money' a stiff challenge.

But what unfolded was a genuine masterclass in the defensive side of boxing.

With Mayweather regarded as arguably the greatest defensive boxer of all time, the surging Mexican champion was unable to land punches with his usual consistency, and his opponent picked him apart using sharp counterpunches.

Many fans and pundits have pointed to the defeat to 'Money' as a turning point in Alvarez's career, with theories suggesting that the American showed the younger pugilists a new level to the sweet science.

Ahead of his upcoming super middleweight title fight with Edgar Berlanga, Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez was interviewed by DAZN Boxing. He was asked if he would be interested in fighting Mayweather again, and said this:

"Yes, of course. I would love to have the opportunity for revenge. Obviously we know it's not going to happen. But yes, I would love to get rid of that little thorn."

Canelo Alvarez wants to bring the pain to Edgar Berlanga

Canelo Alvarez and Edgar Berlanga will fight in a battle between two nations iconic for producing elite boxers: Mexico and Puerto Rico.

Puerto Rico currently holds the lead over Mexico on aggregate, with Berlanga eager to extend that advantage even further. But the super middleweight champion has other ideas in mind and plans on handing 'The Chosen One' a beating he won't forget.

The tension between the pair has been amplified by the trash-talk directed towards Alvarez by his opponent, which the Guadalajara native has used as added motivation during training.

During a recent episode of PBC's GLOVES OFF: CANELO VS. BERLANGA, the 34-year-old was captured saying the following:

"I like them like that. I like them to be confident and do a lot of talking. I like breaking their face when they play like that. I'm eagerly awaiting the day. It'll be the beatdown of his life."
