Dricus du Plessis recently defended his title against Israel Adesanya at UFC 305 in Australia. Given both fighters' ties to Africa, many felt the bout should have been held on the 'Mother Continent'. While that didn't happen, it appears that Du Plessis' next title defense may take place in his home country of South Africa.
The iconic DHL Stadium in Cape Town is reportedly discussing plans to build a temporary roof on the arena to the cost of R30 million ($1.8M) to host a UFC event in 2025.
With UFC CEO Dana White having previously made comments about how important a closed-top arena would be to having a UFC event in Africa, it appears that the DHL stadium is making all the right moves ahead of time.
The Cape Town International Convention Centre (CTICC) is also a potential venue for the UFC but has a far smaller capacity that DHL Stadium would hold.

Should the temporary roof be approved for construction, reports indicate that the venue would be ready to host an event by March 2025.
Ahead of Du Plessis' clash with Adesanya at UFC 305, White was asked if the promotion would head to South Africa if 'Stillknocks' won. He said:
"Everything is on the line, especially because they dislike each other so much. If he can beat Izzy and bring that belt back to South Africa, obviously we'll do an event there. If Izzy can regain the title, it's huge for him and his legacy."

Dricus du Plessis fires back at Alex Pereira labeling him scared
Dricus du Plessis was called out by Alex Pereira after defeating Israel Adesanya at UFC 305, with the South African more than happy to challenge the light heavyweight champion at either middleweight or at 205 pounds.
'Poatan' was recently in attendance of the historic Noche UFC 306 card in Las Vegas, where he was interviewed by Full Send MMA. During his interview, Pereira labeled Du Plessis as a "clown," claiming that he was afraid to fight him.
'Stillknocks' has now responded to the Brazilian, writing X:
"A scared clown how dare you! Now that's taking it too far. I've already said I'm in to fight either you or Sean Strickland what more do you want or should I tag your translator?"
