Chael Sonnen has continued his war of words with Jorge Masvidal in the hopes of getting into a boxing ring with the former UFC welterweight title challenger.
Sonnen is fresh off an exhibition boxing bout against Anderson Silva over the weekend. This is the third time Silva and Sonnen have fought, with the two prior UFC middleweight title fights won by the former. Their boxing bout in Brazil on Saturday saw the two go the distance over five rounds.
The multi-division UFC title challenger wants to follow this up with more challenges in the sweet science and Sonnen is eyeing a former BMF champion. Also over the weekend was Father's Day and 'The American Gangster' took advantage of this to engage in some playful social media trash talk. On his X account on Sunday, Chael Sonnen posted:
"Happy Father's Day. As much as I love kids, sometimes they need more discipline... which is why I can't wait to spank Jorge Masvidal."

Chael Sonnen and Jorge Masvidal's boxing pedigrees
Chael Sonnen made his debut into the sport in the framework of his follow-up clash with 'The Spider' being an exhibition. Local regulatory officials in Sao Paulo said that despite an official winner not being recorded that a winner would still be announced. Both men had their hands raised at the end intimating it was a draw although the result is not official due to the nature of the contest.
The Masvidal matchup is obviously far from a done deal and there is no clear idea on whether the 47-year-old would fight in another exhibition or if the 'Gamebred' contest would be official.
Sonnen took on Silva under the Spaten Fight Night banner as part of a retirement tour of sorts for Anderson Silva who seemingly had his competitive swan song in terms of fighting in his home country.
The Oregon native eyes Masvidal who himself has a looming fight under Queensberry Rules in the coming weeks. Jorge Masvidal will fight Nate Diaz on July 6 in a ten-round boxing bout following their first fight taking place in November 2019 in the inaugural BMF championship matchup.
That Diaz clash will be Masvidal's second professional boxing bout with his sophomore fight in the sweet science taking place close to 20 years since his first fight in the combat sport. Masvidal made his boxing debut in June 2005 against Joseph Benjamin and garnered a majority decision win over four rounds.
