Charles Oliveira reacted after Islam Makhachev provided an update on his status following a hand injury. The lightweight champion successfully retained his title by earning an impressive fifth-round submission over Dustin Poirier at UFC 302 but injured his hand in the process.
'Do Bronx' and the Dagestani are no strangers to each other as they fought last October in the main event of UFC 280, where Makhachev submitted him to win the vacant lightweight championship. Despite competing against each other, they share a mutual respect, with the Dagestani even offering to help the Brazilian train should he move up to fight Colby Covington at welterweight.
MMA Orbit tweeted a quote from a recent interview, where the lightweight champion noted that he sustained a partial ligament tear in his hand during his bout against Poirier and could be sidelined for the remainder of the year if he requires surgery. The tweet caught Oliveira's attention, who reacted:
"@MAKHACHEVMMA Hey man! I wish you a quick recovery. Get well soon! God bless you."
