Oliveira gained popularity with a win over Jeremy Stephens in The Ultimate Fighter Finale in 2014. He went on to beat Nik Lentz with a guillotine, but could not carry the momentum going forward and ended up losing to Max Holloway at UFC Fight Night 74 in 2015.
Following his loss to Paul Felder in 2017 at UFC 218, Charles Oliveira never looked back. He improved his game and beat every opponent that he faced. The Brazilian is unbeaten since 2017 and is on a 11-fight winning streak. He currently holds a pro-MMA record of 33 wins against eight losses and one no-contest.
Islam Makhachev UFC record
Islam Makhachev, the protege of former lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov, had humble beginnings and scraped his way to the top just like his Brazilian counterpart. Makhachev made his debut in the UFC back in 2015 at UFC 187. The only blemish on his record came in his second ever fight in the UFC when he was TKO'd by Adriano Martins.
The Russian has not looked back since and is himself on a 10-fight winning streak. He also enters the fight as a slight betting favorite. Makhachev currently holds a pro-MMA record of 22 wins against one loss. He is looking to continue the legacy of his childhood friend Khabib Nurmagomedov and bring the UFC lightweight title back to Dagestan.
