Nate Diaz made headlines at UFC 310 when he was involved in a heated backstage exchange at the ceremonial weigh-ins with Islam Makhachev and his teammates. A lesser-known blunt backstage interaction has now come to light involving Chase Hooper and UFC veteran Clay Guida.
Diaz, who was in attendance to support Kron Gracie during the ceremonial weigh-ins, crossed paths with Hooper, who was gearing up for his clash with Guida. In classic Diaz fashion, he didn’t hold back his opinions, expressing disdain for Guida in a moment that left Hooper energized and amused.
Speaking about the interaction in a recent episode of the JAXXON PODCAST, Hooper said:
"We were at like the ceremonial weigh-ins, the fake ones in front of the crowd. Nate was in there hanging with Kron, I think they're boys. And he's like,' Who are you fighting?' I was like, 'I'm fighting Clay Guida.' And he was like,' F*ck Clay! Clay's a f*g. I was like hell yeah dude! If you're in my team, I'm down!"

Hopper delivered a dominant performance against Guida at UFC 310. The young lightweight prospect showcased his grappling mastery, smoothly transitioning to an armbar that secured a submission victory at 3:41 of the opening round.
The win marked Hooper’s second submission over Guida, having previously defeated the veteran in a grappling match in December 2022. Now riding a four-fight winning streak at lightweight, the 25-year-old continues to impress with his rapid development since his UFC debut in 2019.
Brandon Royval defends Nate Diaz for bottle-throwing incident against Islam Makhachev
Nate Diaz was at the center of another heated backstage moment during UFC 310, but flyweight contender Brandon Royval clarified the situation. The incident occurred just before the ceremonial weigh-ins, with Diaz in attendance to corner teammate Kron Gracie for his bout against Bryce Mitchell. A scuffle broke out between Diaz and UFC lightweight champion Islam Makhachev’s team, escalating into a bottle-throwing exchange.
Viral footage of the altercation seemingly placed blame on Diaz, but Royval claimed the first bottle was thrown at Diaz by Tagir Ulanbekov. Speaking about the incident in an interview with MMA Fighting, Royval said:
“Diaz is walking by me, and a water bottle zooms past my head. That’s what people didn’t see! Diaz didn’t throw that first water bottle, the first one was thrown at him…Diaz turned around and they were going after him. I knew exactly who threw the water bottle! It was [Tagir Ulanbekov], I turned around and saw it…It was just a bad throw! I swear to god, Nate did not start that s***. The video shows Nate throwing the first water bottle, but somebody didn’t record it because someone threw it at him first.”
