ONE Championship CEO and Chairman Chatri Sityodtong was fired up about the success of ONE 164 in Manila last weekend. The final ONE Championship event of 2022 delivered fireworks and ended the year strong. The event with the theme, 'The Philippines vs. The World', showcased some of the best MMA fighters from the Pearl of the Orient.
While some Filipino fighters failed to see victory that night, including former ONE strawweight world champion Joshua 'The Passion' Pacio losing his belt to Jarred Brooks, there was also a lot who reigned supreme.
In his post-event media scrum, Chatri Sityodtong gave his thoughts on ONE 164 and which fighter impressed him the most. The Thai entrepreneur seems impressed with the younger generation of fighters who will serve as the future of his organization and the sport altogether.

Sityodtong said:
"It’s a blur, with so many first-round knockouts. My favorite fight of the night was one of the Team Lakay fights. Jhanlo, that was my favorite. Jhanlo kicked it off. I think Jhanlo is a future world champion. He has all the right elements."
Jhanlo Mark 'The Machine' Sangiao, the proud son of Team Lakay founder Marquez Sangiao, is one of the upcoming stars of the legendary Filipino MMA stable. Sangiao faced fellow Filipino fighter and ONE Warrior Series alum Anacleto Lauron after his original opponent, Matias Farinelli, pulled out at the last minute. Lauron was allowed to fight Sangiao at catchweight since there was very little time to cut weight.
The fight, as it turned out, was a complete shutout courtesy of 'The Machine'. Right from the opening bell, Sangiao engaged Lauron in a clinch battle which led to him slamming his foe hard to the ground. From there, it was a violent and methodical assault that ended in Sangiao controlling Lauron's back. It was only a matter of time before 'The Machine' got the choke and left ONE 164 victorious. The win also got him a $50,000 performance bonus from ONE.

Jarred Brooks defeated then-world champion Joshua Pacio via unanimous decision to become the new ONE strawweight world champion. Brooks used a lot of movement and surprisingly engaged Pacio in striking battles throughout the fight. In the end, it was his full grasp of the intricacies of MMA - from the stand-up to the ground - that got him the win.
In the co-main event of ONE 164, Superlek Kiatmoo9 defeated Panpayak Jitmuangnon via split decision. The bout was supposed to be the final match of the ONE Flyweight Muay Thai World Grand Prix.
