ONE 164, headlined by the strawweight world title fight between Joshua Pacio and Jarred Brooks, had a lot to live up to. After ONE on Prime Video 5 the night before, the second part of ONE’s back-to-back events in Manila delivered on its promises.
With a host of impressive finishes, the event produced some big moments as ONE Championship closed out their year in style.
In the main event, Jarred Brooks dethroned previously dominant champion Joshua Pacio with another impressive performance in his ONE career. After all of his talk going into the fight, Brooks delivered and was able to shut out Pacio’s best weapons to win a unanimous decision and become the strawweight champion.
Another moment that stole headlines at the event was the retirement of Brandon Vera. In front of his home fans in the Philippines, the former heavyweight champion returned to competition for the first time in 18 months.

ONE 164 results: Jarred Brooks dethrones Joshua Pacio in a five-round war to capture the ONE strawweight world title
In the main event of ONE 164, the time for talking between strawweight world champion Joshua Pacio and No.1-ranked contender Jarred Brooks was finally over. After their originally scheduled fight was canceled and postponed, they finally came face-to-face in Manila.
Just like he has done to all of his opponents inside the circle, Jarred Brooks looked to dominate Pacio with his grappling and landed his first takedown inside 20 seconds.
Whilst he was able to control the defending champion in the first round, this became harder to do in the following rounds, forcing Brooks to stand with his opponent.
Whilst striking on the feet would’ve been where Pacio would’ve wanted the fight, it was Jarred Brooks who was getting the better of the exchanges as the champion remained defensive.
As Joshua Pacio fell behind in the fight, Brooks was able to secure two late takedowns at the end of the fourth and fifth rounds, even taking his opponents back and locking in a choke that he couldn’t finish before the buzzer.
Whilst it was the threat of his grappling that won him the fight, Brooks proved that when he said he would beat Joshua Pacio whenever the fight took place, he wasn’t lying.
