Azerbaijani-Belarusian kickboxer Chingiz Allazov was quite dominant in winning the ONE Featherweight Kickboxing World Championship but is not claiming sole credit for it. Instead, he is choosing to share it with his team, particularly his coach Andrei Gridin.
To the shock of the hometown crowd, ‘Chinga’ dominated erstwhile champion and local hero Superbon Singha Mawynn in their title showdown at ONE Fight Night 6 on January 13 in Bangkok.
Chingiz Allazov defeated Superbon by way of a second-round knockout that saw the Thai fighter drop to the mat three times along the way. The scintillating showing earned him a US$50,000 performance bonus from ONE Chairman and CEO Chatri Sityodtong.

In celebrating his title conquest, the newly minted champion gave props to Gridin and the entire team to bring the best out of him and prepare him for his biggest fight to date in ONE Championship. In his in-circle interview with Mitch Chilson following his victory, Allazov said:
“Two, three days before he said, he’d knock me out. But I don’t like to talk much. Now I have the knockout and I’m the best of the best -- the best pound-for-pound fighter in the world. But Mitch, in this fight I present my coach Andrei Gridin, this is the best of the best coach in the world. He’s a legendary coach.”
Gridin has been guiding Allazov's career for the longest time now and in ONE Championship has helped him chart a blazing path in just a short time.
Chingiz Allazov shares his training routine in Thailand
Ahead of his conquest for the ONE featherweight kickboxing world title, Chingiz Allazov and his team spent considerable time training in Thailand, which he said helped them in coming up with a winning game plan.
In an interview with ONE Championship prior to ONE Fight Night 6, ‘Chinga’ shared the training routine they had in Thailand and how that atmosphere got things going for them in their quest.
He said:
“I like the atmosphere here, the Thai-style atmosphere. We train in one gym before fights, we visit each other. I train in this gym, Phuket Fight Club. We even train at Tiger Muay Thai but we go to Phuket Fight Club three times a week for sparring, clinch work, Thai style.”
Adding:
“We camp. We go on runs and after running, stretching a little bit, and after they close the equipment, we start to work and spar, and after sparring, they work with me. Two-three people work with me, only clinch, clinch, clinch... I don't know but we like this atmosphere. After this a second training with my coach in endurance training, strategic training, and speed work.”
Chingiz Allazov won the ONE Featherweight Kickboxing World Grand Prix before seizing the world title over Superbon Singha Mawynn by way of a second-round knockout at ONE Fight Night 6 on January 13 in Bangkok.
