Chingiz Allazov scored the biggest win of his combat sports career on Friday night. Stepping into the main event spotlight, ‘Chinga’ delivered a jaw-dropping knockout of pound-for-pound great Superon Singha Mawynn to capture the ONE featherweight kickboxing world championship.

Less than two years ago, the idea of Allazov beating Superbon in such a decisive fashion was unthinkable. Especially after his unremarkable debut at ONE on TNT 1 in 2021. Allazov dropped his debut bout by way of a split decision to Enriko Kehl. It was then that Allazov’s coach stepped in and gave him a reality check:

“You know guys, in my first fight, my debut fight in ONE Championship with Enriko [Kehl], before this, I didn’t have focus... [I didn’t] have 100 percent focus mentally. I gave 100 percent in training everyday, but mentally, [not] 100 percent. Before this, I had many other plans, I had many businesses in other places.”

Chingiz Allazov continued, saying:

“After I lost, I talked about this tournament [ONE Featherweight Kickboxing World Grand Prix] with my coach. My coach told me, ‘Chingiz, you’re one of the best [kickboxers] on the planet, but now maybe if you don’t focus your mind, you’ll lose a second time. Please focus 100 percent and trust me, and I will trust you, and we will go up and we will win this tournament.'"

Chingiz Allazov believes having an amateur career is important for the development of young fighters

When it comes to amateur combat sports careers, nobody is more of an expert than Chingiz Allazov. Though his 66 career fights might seem slim compared to ONE Championship superstars who have eclipsed 100 career fights, ‘Chinga’ has competed in more than 200 bouts as an amateur.

Continuing to speak at the ONE Fight Night 6 on Prime Video post-fight press event, Chingiz Allazov shared details on his incredible amateur career and his belief that gaining experience as an amateur is good for young up-and-coming fighters:

“Yes, I had a long amateur career. I am a five-time world champion in Muay Thai with WMC, and in other promotions. I’ve had many amateur fights. For me, I fought 5-10 fights in one month, it was normal. My coach tells me to prepare for a fight and [I do it]. We’ve had more than 200, maybe 250 fights. I only lost three fights. I fought before in kickboxing and MMA.”

He added:

“You know this is good for the young fighters. This is good for your career, this is good.”
