Chingiz Allazov shoots down potential move to Muay Thai, wants to stay in kickboxing

Chingiz Allazov is ONE Championship's new featherweight kickboxing world champion following his win over Superbon Singha Mawynn at ONE Fight Night 6 on Prime Video. He has no intentions of leaving the division anytime soon.

The 2021 World Grand Prix winner picked up the biggest win of his career by finishing Superbon in the second round. Aside from a split decision defeat in his ONE debut, Allazov has looked invincible inside the circle.

After the title-winning performance, 'Chinga' spoke with reporters in his post-fight interview about the prospect of seeking gold in a different sport. He stated:

"Me going to Muay Thai is another situation. I don’t like it. Maybe I won’t focus 100 percent on this style. I don’t like fighting in other styles. We’ve had many fights in Muay Thai, but for 11 years, I haven’t fought in Muay Thai. I talked to my coach about this, you know, maybe we like this. But no. I say we focus only 100 percent now [on kickboxing]."

The 29-year-old now owns a trio of knockouts inside the circle. He has starched Samy Sana, Jo Nattawut, and the aforementioned Superbon.

Chingiz Allazov speaks on the importance of young fighters having an amateur career

Despite still not being 30 years of age, Chingiz Allazov has already competed in over 200 matches, many of which were in the amateur ranks. The newly crowned champ spoke about the importance of amateur fights in his post-fight presser:

“Yes, I had a long amateur career. I am a five-time world champion in Muay Thai with WMC, and in other promotions. I’ve had many amateur fights. For me, I fought 5-10 fights in one month, it was normal. My coach tells me to prepare for a fight and [I do it]. We’ve had more than 200, maybe 250 fights. I only lost three fights. I fought before in kickboxing and MMA.”

'Chinga' continued:

“You know this is good for the young fighters. This is good for your career, this is good.”

The featherweight kickboxing champ pulled off an incredible upset at ONE Fight Night 6, adding to his collection of belts, which includes the K-1 super welterweight crown.
