Two-division MMA world champion Christian Lee believes he was heading to another highlight-reel moment at ONE Fight Night 26.
Unfortunately, it wasn't meant to be for the Prodigy Training Center and Evolve MMA athlete inside the revered Lumpinee Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand, last Friday.
'The Warrior' and Alibeg Rasulov lived up to the main event billing, swarming each other with huge shots, with the latter effectively defending Lee's takedowns with his shrewd counter-grappling techniques.
Both fighters went again at the same pace in the second round. Each straight, overhand, and uppercut connected at full pace with the intention to knock one another's lights out.

During those heated exchanges, though, the challenger was caught in the eye with an accidental poke from Christian Lee — one that effectively forced a no contest ruling that halted their ONE lightweight MMA world championship bout.
Looking back at how things could have played out if the fight carried on, the double champ is adamant he would have gone on to finish Rasulov and hand him a first career loss.
'The Warrior' told members of the media at the post-event press conference:
"I feel like I was on track to wearing him down and taking him out."
Christian Lee didn't miss a beat in return fight at ONE Fight Night 26
Christian Lee brushed away any talk about ring rust with an assertive display for as long as his fight against Rasulov lasted inside the Mecca of Muay Thai last week.
Despite not having competed for more than two years, the Hawaii-based warrior hit his stride with ease, looking lively every second of the bout. As always, the lightweight and welterweight divisional king attacked with pace and intensity, giving Rasulov little to no room to restrategize.
It was definitely an impressive showing, and with a new fire to right the mistakes from this bout, one can only imagine how much more Lee will improve in his next dance on the global stage.
