It appears as though Claressa Shields' bold claims about Cris Cyborg and other boxers have cost her a fan in a UFC veteran. She has been dismissive of the Brazilian's boxing ability in particular and has even referenced getting the better of her in a past sparring session during their back-and-forth exchanges on social media.
'T-Rex's comments have certainly rubbed former UFC lightweight Josh Thomson the wrong way as he recently voiced his displeasure with her claims. Thomson has been on the Bellator broadcast as a commentator and analyst, and so he has seen several Cyborg fights and is aware of her capability.
During a recent episode of WEIGHING IN, the former UFC veteran told co-host 'Big' John McCarthy that after speaking with the women's boxing champion-turned-MMA star, he is no longer a fan. Thomson referenced interviewing Shields following her PFL bout and mentioned that he doesn't believe she would have success against male boxers or fighting Cyborg in an MMA bout:
"I walked out of there not a fan [of Shields]. I couldn't believe the things that were coming up out of her mouth about, 'I could knock this dude out. I could knock that guy out. These dudes won't fight me'...I was like, these guys are world champions in their weight class. What are you talking about? They would starch you. It wouldn't even be close. And now I see the comments that she would beat the dogsh*t out of Cris Cyborg in a street fight." [36:19]

Former UFC referee says Cris Cyborg would defeat Claressa Shields in an MMA bout
In addition to Josh Thomson's comments regarding Claressa Shields' bold claims, former UFC referee 'Big' John McCarthy said that he believes Cris Cyborg would defeat the women's boxing champion-turned-PFL star in an MMA bout.
During the aforementioned episode, McCarthy referenced Shields' PFL bout as an indicator that Cyborg would easily beat 'T-Rex' should they compete in an MMA bout:
"[Shields] doesn't have a ton of experience in MMA and if you go back and you watch her fights, she's got a lot of holes. And so, would it be a hard fight for Cyborg? No. I'm just being honest, it wouldn't...I don't give a sh*t if it's in a cage or in the back room, she would dog walk Claressa Shields any which way she wanted." [37:13]
