Claressa Shields vs. Vanessa Lepage-Joanisse just wrapped up. The event took place at the Little Caesars Arena in Detroit, Michigan on July 27 and featured 10 fights in five weight classes. This article recaps the event and explores the full results.

In the main event, middleweight champion Claressa Shields challenged WBC heavyweight champion Vanessa Lepage-Joanisse for the title. The vacant WBO light heavyweight title was also on the line.

Shields started the fight aggressively and appeared to be the quicker fighter. Joanisse could not hold her own against the onslaught and suffered two quick knockdowns in the second round. While she answered the 10-count on both occasions, the third knockdown sealed the deal and the referee called a stop to the action.

With the win, Shields added the WBC heavyweight and WBO light heavyweight titles to her record.

In the co-main event, Dominican Republic's Michel Rivera fought Argentina's Hugo Alberto Roldan. Rivera suffered the first professional loss of his career against Frank Martin in December 2022 and bounced back with a win over Sergey Lipinets in November 2023. Meanwhile, Roldan was coming off a split-decision loss against Batyrzhan Jukembyayev.

In the fight, Rivera effectively used his jab to keep Roldan at the end of his punches and steadily picked him apart. Rivera also scored the only knockdown of the fight in the final round, securing a split-decision victory.

In the second super lightweight bout on the card, Shohjahon Ergashev fought the relatively inexperienced Julian Smith. While Ergashev was favored to win, Smith was the aggressor and landed more meaningful strikes in the fight. He also knocked Ergashev down several times and walked away with a split decision to score the biggest win of his career by far.

Claressa Shields vs. Vanessa Lepage-Joanisse preliminary card: Cameron Plankey wins, three fights end in finishes

In the preliminary card's headlining bout, Cameron Pankey put his 9-1 record on the line against Shaileik Paisley. While Paisley's 4-4 professional boxing record appeared unimpressive, he brought knockout power to the table as three of his four professional wins came by T/KO.

Pankey exploited Paisley's tendency to get outboxed and walked away with a unanimous decision victory.

Relatively inexperienced light middleweights Gordie Russ and Josiah Shackleford fought to further their professional boxing journeys. Shackleford proved to be the better boxer of the night, securing a unanimous decision victory.

Elsewhere, Husam Al Mashhadi did quick work of Bruno Leonardo, knocking him down twice to finish the fight within one minute of the first round. Ernesto Mercado and Samantha Worthington also defeated Hector Edgardo Sarmiento and Edina Kiss by KO, respectively.
