Colby Covington weighed in on the ongoing criticism surrounding Dana White confirming that he will receive the next UFC welterweight title shot against Leon Edwards.
During his appearance on Submission Radio, Covington addressed White backing him for a title shot and noted that there is a reason why he is getting the opportunity as opposed to other contenders. He mentioned that the promotion recognizes his worth and the interest he will generate in his title fight against Edwards.
"It come from the numbers, numbers don't lie and everybody knows I draw the numbers. Whether you love me or whether you hate me, everybody wants to see me right now. And yeah, there's a lot of nerds out there crying, they're so sad, 'Oh, he doesn't deserve it.'...It's because they know what's coming, they know I'm about to be the undisputed champion of the world." 'Chaos' also mentioned that he believes the reason others are upset about him earning a title shot is because they know he can defeat 'Rocky' and become the new champion. The 35-year-old mentioned that it's inevitable that he will win the welterweight championship title from Edwards, saying:

"[Other contenders] They know what's coming. They know Leon's [Edwards] nothing special and I'm ten times better fighter than him. I'm the best welterweight in the world right now and I'm gonna go show it soon." [23:51 - 23:58]
It remains to be seen when Edwards vs. Covington will be booked, but UFC 290 in July seems realistic.

Colby Covington sounds off on Khamzat Chimaev
Colby Covington sounded off on Khamzat Chimaev after he claimed that he accepted numerous offers to fight the former interim welterweight champion, but he ducked him.
During the aforementioned interview, 'Chaos' was upset after hearing 'Borz's claims and put him on blast for being unprofessional in the leadup to his scheduled bout with Nate Diaz last year. Covington believes that Chimaev disrespected the UFC and the welterweight division for failing to make weight by 9lbs, saying:
"You [Khamzat Chimaev] didn't miss weight by one pound, you didn't miss weight by two pounds, you didn't miss weight by five pounds, he missed by nine fu****g pounds. And then he's laughing, joking on the stage, like this isn't serious business. Like, dude, making a mockery of the company, the UFC." [18:23 - 18:38]
There's clearly no love lost between the two fighters and it doesn't seem as though they'll be fighting in the octagon anytime soon.
