Colby Covington recently opened up about his persona and claimed that he is misunderstood as a person because of how he sells his fights. 'Chaos' has noted in the past that he was on the verge of being cut from the UFC at one point before adopting a villain persona.
Despite many being aware that his antics are selling a fight, the former interim welterweight champion has received criticism for his trash talk in the past. Most recently, he was heavily criticized for bringing up Leon Edwards' father's death during their heated press conference exchange ahead of their UFC 296 main event last year.
While speaking to CBS Sports' Shakiel Mahjouri ahead of his UFC Tampa main event against Joaquin Buckley, 'Chaos' responded when asked what people get wrong about him.
Covington mentioned that he is actually a nice person when he's not in fight and promotion mode and believes he has been misunderstood by the MMA community:

"[What people get wrong] is that I'm a mean person. People don't know. They want to assume things, they want to jump to conclusions. They don't know that yeah, of course I gotta turn myself up for show business, it is what it is. This is the name of the game. I'm trying to get paid, I'm trying to do good business for the UFC...I'm misunderstood and that's okay." [9:24]

Colby Covington shares surprising answer on who he'd like to have dinner with
In addition to sharing his thoughts on being misunderstood, Colby Covington was asked who among the people he has a grudge with, would he like to sit down and have a dinner with.
Covington named Leon Edwards as somebody that he'd like to have dinner with, which was quite surprising due to their heated exchanges, and mentioned that he'd like to talk about their fight:
"Probably Leon Edwards to be honest...I'd like to sit down with him and talk through some stuff and talk about the last fight and all that went down, so I think that that would be a good dinner session." [7:08]
