Colby Covington has reignited his feud with former teammate Dustin Poirier, accusing the Louisiana native of disloyalty and labeling him "swamp trash." Speaking on Submission Radio, Covington revealed behind-the-scenes details of their fractured relationship, claiming he once supported Poirier with valuable advice on UFC negotiations.
According to Covington, the UFC even offered to double Poirier’s paycheck to settle their beef in the octagon, but Poirier declined. Covington dismissed Poirier’s reasoning, stating:
“When the UFC started offering the fight then it was 'oh no, uh, I don't want Colby to make finances after me.' Finance? what do you mean bro, I already make big finances regardless if I fight you. I want to f**king settle this personal beef." [19:15]
Covington claimed that he shared insider tips with Poirier after 'The Diamond' won the interim lightweight title in 2019, helping him navigate UFC contracts and maximize earnings:

"He had no idea dude. His management wasn't doing any right by him so of course you know, he had to fight you know, 35 fights in the UFC. I fought 10 fights there and I was making more money than him. So, you know that's because I knew what I was doing... So you know, I gave him all these inside scoops, and for him to turn his back on me and just start talking sh*t about me for no reason? it was s*itty, it s*cks but that's what life's all about, you learn who your real ones are and you cut ties with the ones that are fake.” [20:47]

What has Dustin Poirier said about fighting Colby Covington?
While Colby Covington has been poking Dustin Poirier for a grudge match, the Louisiana native has always made it clear he has no interest in facing the former interim welterweight champion.
Recent speculation suggested a possible Poirier vs. Covington matchup at UFC 309 in November. However, Poirier immediately shut down the idea:
"He'll never make money with me, it's BS."
This sentiment echoes Poirier’s 2022 stance after fans clamored for a grudge match. At the UFC 271 post-fight press conference, Poirier stated unequivocally:
"I'll never fight Colby in an octagon where there's finances on the line. If I fight Colby, we're both going to jail. He's not making money off my career and what I've done. You will never see me fight Colby Covington in the UFC."
