Colby Covington ends his year-long hiatus with a short-notice showdown against Joaquin Buckley in the final UFC fight event of 2024. After a tough loss to Leon Edwards last year, Covington is back, aiming to prove his spot at the top of the welterweight division.
Buckley, transitioning from middleweight, has found success at 170 pounds, with five consecutive wins, including a dramatic knockout over Stephen Thompson.
Ahead of the fight, Covington sat down for a lighthearted interview with Nina-Marie Daniele, where he shared some humorous insights. When asked about his whereabouts on January 6th, Covington jokingly responded:
"On a beach in Miami, hanging out with some mamacitas."

The conversation turned even more bizarre when Covington recounted a childhood sleepwalking episode where he attempted to hit his father with a hammer and later mistook the trash can for a toilet:
“When I was a little kid, I ran to the kitchen and tried to smack my dad with a hammer, like in real-life. I went to sleep, then I came right back to the kitchen and took a pi*s in the trash can… This is me sleepwalking.”

Colby Covington has set the stage for a fiery showdown against Joaquin Buckley at UFC Tampa on Dec. 14, with his confident and cutting pre-fight declaration. Covington, known for his outspoken persona, issued a bold statement about his intentions to dominate the octagon:
''The fight just looks like me completely breaking him [Buckley], taking him down, taking his will, bringing him to the deep end of the pool and drowning him. I just don't think he'll be able to keep up. He's never been in a five-round fight with an elite fighter like me. He's been fighting some guys that are past their time but I'm not pass my time, I'm in my prime. Saturday I'm going to drown this guy... I'm going to drown him and he's not going to be able to hang up with me for 25 minutes.''
