Top UFC welterweight contender Colby Covington has revealed his involvement in assisting former US President Donald Trump in his preparations for the 2024 presidential election.

Known for his vocal political opinions and support for Trump, Covington expressed his enthusiasm for the "mega campaign". He also expressed his excitement at the opportunity to work with his friend, the former president.

In an interview with Submission Radio, Covington shared that he has been spending time with Trump, helping him prepare for the upcoming campaign. Covington is eagerly looking forward to the direction of the campaign and the opportunity to help "make this country great again."

"I have been hanging out with my friend Donald Trump, you know, getting him geared up, getting him ready for the campaign trail before mega 2024 [elections] get underway. So, I'm super excited about the direction that's going with, you know, the mega campaign and making this country [USA] great again."

Covington was last seen in the fighting scene at UFC 272, seeking retribution against his teammate-turned-nemesis, Jorge Masvidal. In a fiery clash that saw both fighters at their best, 'Chaos' emerged victorious, winning by a unanimous decision. The 35-year-old fighter has amassed an impressive record of 17 wins with only three losses to date.

Despite a year-long hiatus from fighting, Covington recently stepped up as the substitute fighter for the UFC 286 welterweight title match between Usman and Edwards.

In the same interview, Colby Covington also reacted to Dana White recently backing him up as a potential title contender against Leon Edwards.

Covington acknowledged that there is a reason he is being given this opportunity over other contenders. He said that the promotion recognizes his value and the buzz he will generate in a title fight against Edwards.

The American went on to emphasize that his worth comes from his proven track record of drawing numbers.

"It come from the numbers, numbers don't lie and everybody knows I draw the numbers. Whether you love me or whether you hate me, everybody wants to see me right now."

He also took a jab at critics who have questioned his worthiness for the title shot, calling them "nerds". He asserted that they know he is on the verge of becoming the undisputed champion of the world.
