Colby Covington returned to the octagon in the final card of 2024 after nearly a year of inactivity, suffering a third-round TKO loss to Joaquin Buckley in the main event of UFC on ESPN 63. The No. 9-ranked welterweight recently expressed his displeasure with Michael Vick being named the head coach of the Norfolk State Spartans football team.
'Chaos' took to X on Monday to call out the university's athletic department, posting:
"Michael Vick belongs in prison for life. What he did to those dogs is unforgivable. The Norfolk State athletic department, staff and anyone endorsing this subhuman piece of trash should be ashamed of themselves. @MichaelVick"

Vick was, arguably, the most popular player in the NFL before spending 21 months in federal prison for his involvement in a dog fighting ring. After more than two years away from the sport, he returned to the league and played five more seasons following his release. While he was initially dropped by all of his sponsors, he later got re-signed by several major sponsors, including Nike.
Following his release from prison, he has become an animal rights activist, expressing that he learned from his mistakes. The 2010 NFL Comeback Player of the Year had served as an NFL analyst on Fox NFL kickoff since 2017.
Chael Sonnen opens up on almost stopping Colby Covington's fight
While there was controversy surrounding the doctor's stoppage in Colby Covington's third-round TKO loss to Joaquin Buckley at UFC on ESPN 63, his corner agreed with the decision. Chael Sonnen recently said that the cut on 'Chaos' eyelid nearly made him throw in the towel.
Speaking on his podcast, Beyond The Fight, 'The American Gangster' said:
"Colby was getting hit on his feet with everything you could do. I mean, he's busted open so bad the doctor has to look at it three times. Twice, he stops the action to let it keep going. The third time he says, 'man, we can't go anymore'. I was going to stop that fight. I already grabbed the towel. When the doctor came in for the third time and I'm watching that blood, it's not stopping and it is going into the eye and that's the only thing you're really looking for."

Sonnen noted that the amount of blood is less important than whether or not that blood is going into the eye. He shared that even a small amount of blood entering the eye can affect a fighter's vision while revealing that he was prepared to stop the bout if the doctor did not intervene.
