Colby Covington vs. Jorge Masvidal headlined UFC 272 on 5 March 2022 at the T-Mobile Arena in Paradise, Nevada. The welterweight fight had a lot of bad blood since the pair were formerly best friends and teammates.
The former American Top Team training partners looked to settle their rivalry inside the Octagon. The fight was a one-sided affair as Covington outstruck 'Gamebred'.
Covington's tactics of employing ground and pound worked to his advantage. 'Chaos' enjoyed more than 10 minutes of ground control time throughout the 25-minute fight, which was a major factor in him winning the fight. Colby Covington also outstruck 'Gamebred' with a higher output of punches. However, Masvidal's significant strike percentage was higher.

What happened between Colby Covington and Jorge Masvidal after UFC 272?
Colby Covington and Jorge Masvidal's rivalry did not end after UFC 272. It would seem, losing the fight angered 'Gamebred' to the point where the pair got into a physical altercation outside a Miami restaurant. In the month of march this year, Masvidal reportedly assaulted 'Chaos' outside Miami Beach restaurant Papi Steak. The altercation left Covington with a chipped tooth and damage to his Rolex.

Covington pressed charges of aggravated battery resulting in great bodily harm and criminal mischief. Masvidal has pleaded not guilty to all counts, and this ongoing case's next date has been set for a on November 17, which will be a pre-trial. The tentative trial date is currently December 5.
