Dustin Poirier has not competed since June, when he challenged Islam Makhachev for the lightweight title, suffering a fifth-round submission loss at UFC 302. While he claimed that the bout could mark the end of his mixed martial arts career, he has since revealed that he will return to the octagon at least once more. 'The Diamond' recently took to X to share that he has fight news coming soon.
Championship Rounds shared his tweet, captioning the post:

Fans speculated on what could come next for the three-time lightweight title challenger. @Interim_IQ predicted that Poirier could welcome Conor McGregor back to the octagon in his highly-anticipated return:
"Conor 4."
@MMASensei_ shared two different former opponents of 'The Diamond', listing Justin Gaethje and Dan Hooker as options:
"gathje or hooker"
@MPersellin70 claimed that it does not feel as if the No.4-ranked lightweight is headed to a retirement fight:
"Doesn’t feel like a retirement fight if he’s gonna be this active That’s 4 fights within 2 years, very active by his standards"
@eljugo29 labeled his previous talk of retirement as pathetic:
"All that “retirement” talk was so pathetic if he’s just going to fight again"

Dustin Poirier shows support for one-night, four-fighter BMF title tournament
Dustin Poirier recently showed his support for a proposed one-night four-fighter tournament for the BMF title, including himself, Max Holloway, Justin Gaethje, and Dan Hooker. The tournament idea was proposed by Andreas Hale of MMA on Sirius XM's Fight Nation. The mixed martial arts analyst tweeted:
"Listen… One night tournament for the BMF championship @BlessedMMA vs. @danthehangman @DustinPoirier vs. @Justin_Gaethje Winners face each other in the main event. Who says no?"
Poirier shared a brief two-word response to the proposal, claiming:
"I'm in"
Check out Andreas Hale's tweet and Dustin Poirier's response below:
Poirier previously competed for the vacant BMF title at UFC 291 last July, losing to Justin Gaethje via second-round knockout. 'The Highlight' suffered a last-second fifth-round knockout loss to Max Holloway at UFC 300, losing the belt in the process.
While 'The Diamond' has shown his support for the tournament, it is unclear if an athletic commission would sign off on two fighters competing in consecutive bouts. Dana White, however, did express interest in the idea, noting that it sounds fun.
