Conor Benn removed from The Ring welterweight rankings due to ongoing doping scandal

Conor Benn has now been removed from The Ring magazine rankings.

Conor Benn's positive drug test continues to haunt him.

'The Destroyer' has been stuck on the sidelines since last October. Just days before his scheduled clash against Chris Eubank Jr., the welterweight prospect tested positive for Clomifene. The substance is banned and is typically used to mask prior steroid usage.

The British star thought he was in the clear in March. That month, the WBC cleared Benn of any wrongdoing connected to the failed test, instead blaming it on egg consumption. The welterweight contender later stated that he didn't believe their cause, but was thankful to be cleared.

Following that clearance from the WBC, Conor Benn announced his plans to continue his career, but outside the U.K. While he was disbarred from fighting the country due to his ongoing feud with the BBBoC, he is technically able to compete elsewhere.

Where and if the welterweight prospect will fight next remains to be seen. Whatever happens, Benn won't be ranked by The Ring magazine for the foreseeable future. The move was announced earlier today as they waited to see the results of the BBBoC investigation.

However, due to Benn not cooperating with the investigation, they've decided to just remove him from their rankings anyway.

Conor Benn next fight: Who is 'The Destroyer' supposed to face in his return?

Conor Benn's next fight is supposed to be against Chris Eubank Jr., but there are still multiple hurdles preventing that from happening.

'The Destroyer' announced in March after WBC's clearance that he intended to fight outside the U.K. With the ability to fight elsewhere, Benn quickly began talks for a clash with Manny Pacquiao. 'Pac-Man' retired after a loss to Yordenis Ugas in August 2021.

However, the British star instead focused on resuming talks with 'Next Gen'. Eubank Jr. and Benn were famously scheduled to fight last October before the latter's positive Clomifene test blew up the matchup. Reports were that the matchup was being eyed for June in Abu Dhabi.

While Conor Benn and Eddie Hearn's plan to avoid the BBBoC ban was a good one, it might not hold up. While some athletic commissions aren't on standby for other suspensions, the British Boxing Board of Control has already announced its plans to lobby against the welterweight's return.

With that being the case, Conor Benn's possible return still hangs in the balance. While the welterweight prospect recently teased plans to meet with the BBBoC, nothing has been announced as of now.
