It seems the change in image was prompted by his Halloween costume, with Conor McGregor first revealing his new facial hair on Halloween. The Irishman not only made headlines for his costume, but his mother also received backlash.
However, Margaret McGregor's costume incident was much more serious, with McGregor's mother being accused of 'blackface' due to pictures shared on social media of her outfit.
Margaret McGregor and Conor McGregor's representatives have denied the 'blackface' claims, with the spokesmen stating that his mother "had spiders painted on her face" according to the Irish Mirror.
The representatives continued to state that the situation was "wrong" and "truly unfortunate" to have been perceived as racially motivated.
How heavy did Conor McGregor recently say that he weighs?
McGregor hasn't fought in the UFC since losing to Dustin Poirier for the second time in a row at UFC 264 in 2021. Despite the bout taking place in the lightweight division, there have recently been rumors of the Irishman moving up in the divisions should he return to the UFC.
The Irishman stated that he was around "265" while speaking live on Instagram to his fanbase. McGregor later backed-up these claims on Twitter when replying to a fan who had reposted the clip. While posting on Twitter, the 34-year-old stated:
Super heavy in the bank.
Conor McGregor hasn't won in the UFC since beating Donald Cerrone in 2020. However, the Irishman hasn't beaten an active UFC opponent since getting the better of Dustin Poirier at UFC 178: Johnson vs. Cariaso in 2014.
Since the UFC 178 victory, McGregor has beaten Dennis Siver, Chad Mendes, José Aldo, Nate Diaz, Eddie Alvarez and Cerrone, but all of these opponents have since left the UFC.
It's currently unknown if or when 'The Notorious' will return to the UFC, but the Irishman will likely be fighting heavier than 155lbs given his latest updates.
