Conor McGregor claims to be "even smoother now" reacting to clip of his 'prime' self

A case can be made based on the generally accepted view in the MMA community that Conor McGregor was operating in full throttle in his bid to claim the lightweight throne against Eddie Alvarez at UFC 205. To this day, many fans consider the second-round TKO victory as probably his most stellar effort so far.

McGregor put on a striking masterclass against Alvarez, darting in and out of range to land vicious blows. The victory cemented his status as the first simultaneous two-division champion in the UFC. With that win, he also punched his ticket to the blockbuster boxing clash against Floyd Mayweather Jr.

However, since the fight against Alvarez in November 2016, 'The Notorious' has only competed in four fights inside the octagon, with three losses. While the recent record may indicate a diminished stature in competition, McGregor offers an opposing argument. He took to X to react to a video titled 'Prime Conor McGregor was so smooth', contending that his skills have improved:

"I’m even smoother now."

However, speculations started mounting on the fight's status due to an abruptly canceled press conference in Ireland. Sean O'Malley claims he can beat Conor McGregor

The once respectful dynamic between Conor McGregor and Sean O'Malley seems to have soured in recent times. The camaraderie deteriorated after O'Malley endured the collateral damage of McGregor's attack on boxer Ryan Garcia after a failed drug test.

While McGregor clarified those comments, he recently ridiculed O'Malley's comments based on a recent study sent to him by UFC drug-testing chief Jeff Novitzky that suggests ostarine can be transmitted through sweat. The UFC bantamweight champion has been suspended in the past for trace amounts of ostarine found in his system.

O'Malley launched a fresh attack on McGregor on his podcast, declaring certainty in coming out on top in a potential fight against the Irishman. He said:

"I will chirp Conor, because I do believe I can beat Conor in a fight. I’m not just saying that. I think stylistically I could beat Conor in a fight… It's not an easy fight. I wouldn't call out somebody if I cannot beat them in a fight... Conor’s 5’7, he’s thick, but he’s short.”
